BARLEY
Barley is a cereal grain and is
used in beer and whiskey production. It is also used as a major animal feed
crop. It is the second most produced grain in Australia and
6.6 million tonnes were produced in 2005. In the same year, barley crops ranked
number four in the most quantity produced in the world. Barley earns over each
year in Australia. Barley is also high in
dietary fibres. For example, one hundred grams of Barley contains about sixteen
grams of dietary fibre. It is also high in protein. Another example in the one
hundred gram mark is that about nine grams out of that would be protein. In
British English, Barley may possibly be referred to as corn. It is also the
fastest growing grain crop, with a shorter growing season than wheat.
