WHEAT
Wheat is the highest produced
crop in Australia. It is a staple food and is
used to make flour, bread, biscuits, cakes, pasta, noodles, couscous, alcohol
and biofuel. It is also used in the fermentation of beer and as a feed for
cattle. This grain is in fact so popular that almost twenty million tonnes are
produced each year over the thirty thousand wheat farms in Australia.
Australia was the seventh highest
producer of wheat in the world in 2005, producing 24 million metric
tonnes.
