ULURU/AYERS ROCK

 

What it is:

It is a large sandstone rock formation which is treasured by Australia's native people, the Aborigines.

 

Location:

It is found in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It lies 335 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs.

 

Why it is famous:

It has beautiful sunsets which add to its fame. It is the largest sandstone rock, discovered around 1872 by the Europeans during an expeditionary period.
