Queensland


The koala is Queensland’s mammal emblem. It was proclaimed an emblem in 1971. The koala is the world’s sleepiest animal and it only eats eucalypts leaves. It has grey or brown fur and its babies cling to its mother till a certain age.

The Queensland bird emblem is the Brolga. It has long legs and has a featherless red head. It is grey and it has a black dewlap under its chin.

The Queensland fish emblem is the Barrier Reef Anemone Fish. It has orange scales and 2 white stripes that circle the body. They eat zooplankton.

The Queensland Floral emblem is the Cooktown orchid. It has a purple flower and grows in Queensland.

The Queensland coat of arms is a shield with a helmet on it with a deer and a brolga holding it up. On the shield is a cow, ram, wheat and a mine.

The Queensland flags unique feature is the Maltese
Cross. The Maltese cross is a blue cross with a royal crown in the middle and is in a white circle. It has the Union Jack in the top left and the flag has a blue background.

The State gem is the Sapphire. It is mainly red
but can be other colors.
