Evaluation and Assessment

Written Reporting
Towards the end of each Semester (June and December), written reports are prepared and forwarded via the children, to parents for their perusal. We ask parents to sign the reports and return to the class teacher before the end of semester.

In June, parents wishing to discuss the report with a class teacher are asked to contact the teacher to arrange a mutually suitable time for an appointment. Similarly, a teacher may request a parent come to the school (at a mutually convenient time) to discuss a child's progress.

In December, after sighting the signed report, the teacher will return same to the parent. These written reports should be retained as a future reference for your child as written references will not be issued. This policy applies to all year levels.

Performance in both academic and non-academic areas are recorded and your child's efforts and achievements are noted.

Parent Teacher Meetings
Parent/Teacher meetings are organised on a formal basis towards the end of first term (March/April). The purpose is to gain from parents data relevant to the child in the educational setting and to briefly report on progress to-date. These meeting are directed at consolidating home/school cooperation.

Other meetings may be organised by the parent or teacher on a needs basis as discussed in relation to written reports.

Year 2 Diagnostic Net
The Queensland Government has initiated a process of early monitoring and assessment of children’s development in literacy and numeracy. This process is known as the Year 2 Diagnostic Net. Year 2 children who are identified receive additional support designed to suit their individual learning needs.

The Year 2 Diagnostic Net involves a four-step process. Teachers of children in Years 1, 2 and 3 will:
  • carefully monitor children’s development in literacy and numeracy;
  • involve each Year 2 child in specially designed assessment tasks early in the school year;
  • provide additional support to children identified through this process;
  • report to parents about their child’s development in literacy and numeracy.
As a part of the Year 2 Diagnostic Net, our school will send a standard written report to parents of children in Years 1, 2 and 3. Year 2 reports are given at the end of Semester 1 while Year 1 and 3 reports are given at the end of Semester 2.

Written reports will be followed by Parent/Teacher interviews upon request.
