Specialist Areas
- The Physical Education Teacher teaches at
Moggill two days per week.
- The Support Teacher (Learning Difficulties)
(based at Moggill) spends three days per week at Moggill.
This teacher helps class teachers with problems arising
with individual pupils. She also teaches individual
children and writes specific programs to assist with
children's problems. Parents may meet with the Support
Teacher (Learning Difficulties) to discuss any problem
areas. Parent programs are conducted by the Support
Teacher (Learning Difficulties).
- A Guidance Officer is based at this school
to service the cluster. This teacher carries out
diagnostic tests where a child's parent has given written
approval. Following tests, conclusions are drawn and
interviews arranged by the officer with the parents of
the child. The guidance officer and remedial teacher
interact with the class teacher indicating the problem
and possible remedial action.
- Instrumental Music Instructors - Visiting
specialists give lessons in Woodwind, Brass, Percussion
and Strings on various days during the week. An
information evening for this program is held in term 4.
- Music Specialist - A music specialist is
based at the school. She works two and a half days per
week in the school.

Religious Education - Visiting clergy and lay
teachers provide religious education at the school each
Wednesday morning. This is on an ecumenical basis.
Permission for these people to take classes must first
be obtained from the office of the District Director of
Education. Parents who do not wish their children to
attend R.E. classes are required to advise the school
in writing and their wishes will be respected.
- LOTE Teacher - A Teacher of Languages Other
Than English (Japanese) works in the school on a cluster
basis. This is the base school. This program is delivered
to Years 5, 6, 7.
- Tennis Coach - Various coaches offer a course of instruction in stroke play during the week. A fee is charged for this service. Availability of this instruction is advertised in the school newsletter.
Educational Activities
Class excursions are arranged through the school to allow the children to join in activities of the local community and reinforce work taught in the classroom.
School Camps are organised for Years 5, 6 & 7 students.
The Queensland Arts Council visits the school during the year to perform a variety of cultural activities.
School Band/Orchestra - Both groups are fully involved in playing at functions at school and out of school. viz. Festival of Music, Church functions, Eisteddfod (Ipswich), visits to retirement homes and at the Carols by Candlelight Evening at Bellbowrie.
School Choir - Junior Choir (Year 1-4), Senior Choir (Year 4-7).
Voluntary Support
Adopt-A-Cop - Constable Troy from Bellbowrie Police Beat acts as our adopted policeman.
School Chaplain - Ms. Lisa Bagnell provides pastoral care on an ecumenical basis.
Curriculum/Teaching
The following subject areas are catered for at Moggill School. An integrated approach is taken following the Outcomes Based Education Model.

- Studies of Society and Environment (S.O.S.E) 3.5
hours
- Science 1 hour
- Music 1 hour
- Health and Physical Education 2.5 hours
- The Arts 1.5 hours
- Languages other than English (L.O.T.E) - Japanese
- Religious Education (not compulsory - see Section 4.2) - children not attending are supervised.
The School Day
The normal school hours are set down daily from 8.50 am to 3.00 pm Parents are advised that early arrival at school by pupils is unwise. The Department of Education does not provide staff for supervision prior to the commencement of lessons. An ideal time for arrival is between 8.15 am and 8.30 am.
Bell Times
8:50 am First bell, prepare for school/parade
9:00 am Parade/School Commences. Parade is held on Mondays on the parade ground or the covered games area. Parents are welcome to attend.
11:00 am First Break - Children eat in classrooms
11:15 am Play bell
11:45 am Start of Mid Session
1:15 pm Second Break - 10 minutes designated for eating
1:25 pm Play Bell
1:42 pm Warning Bell
1:45 pm Afternoon Session
3.00 pm Conclusion of School
Playground supervision is maintained during the morning tea and lunch break periods. For bus students, supervision is provided from 3.00 pm until the departure of the bus.
End of School Day
Children who are waiting for parents should remain in the grounds. Parents are requested to collect their children before 3.15 pm each day. To avoid congestion at the front of the school, a car park area exists at the back of the school (entry from Kangaroo Gully Road). Parents are reminded that the Pedestrian Crossing area and bus stop area at the front of the school are NO PARKING zones. Children who have not been collected by 3.10 pm are asked to wait at the school office.
Children going home alone are required to leave the grounds immediately they are dismissed. Children waiting for buses wait outside school offices and are supervised by a teacher to the bus.
Teaching Resources
The school has a variety of teaching aids which are constantly under review. The P&C Association uses much of its funds to supplement grants funding for purchasing teaching aids used throughout the school.
The P&C also provides funds each year to supplement Departmental allocations in many teaching areas - Maths, Science, Reading and Art & Craft.
The school has a very well-equipped automated library containing many extra teaching aids for the use of the teaching staff and children. Computers in the library are connected to the Internet.
School Awards
The school has various awards which acknowledge achievement in school related activities. These awards are not given lightly. If an award is received, it is earned.
a. Certificate of Appreciation
To acknowledge the contribution of members of the total school community and persons outside the school community who make a positive contribution to the school.
b. Certificate of Achievement
To acknowledge special achievement and effort given by the students. These efforts and achievements refer to academic, sporting and citizenship aspects of the school curricular.
c. Class Awards
To acknowledge the student’s "in class" achievements and effort.
d. Year 7 "Graduation Certificate"
To acknowledge that the student has completed Primary Education.
e. Student Council Awards
To acknowledge contribution to the School environment.
f. Principal/Deputy Principal - Stickers
To provide positive re-enforcement to the children by the Principal/Deputy Principal.
g. School Based Extra Curricular Activity Awards
To acknowledge, to the wider school community, achievements in school based extra curricular activities, eg. music, sport, LOTE, Tournament of Minds, etc.
Evaluation
Throughout the year your child’s progress is monitored by the teacher. If at any time, you have concerns about your child’s development, please talk this over with your child’s teacher. Parent Roster provides an ideal opportunity for the sharing of information about your child’s growth and development.
