Special Occasions

The school is involved in many special occasions and commemorates many special days:

Australia Day - January 26
The significance of the day is explained

Anzac Day - April 25
A Commemoration Ceremony is conducted at the school. Usually a guest speaker from the armed services, a District Education Officer, President of the P&C and other guests are invited. Wreaths are made at school and presented by children and community members.

Easter Bonnet Parade
Most years the Prep, Years 1, 2 and 3 teachers and their pupils conduct an Easter Bonnet Parade. Parents are invited to view the parade held during a morning school parade prior to Easter.

Mother's Day/Father’s Day
The P&C conduct a stall for children to purchase inexpensive Mother's Day/Father’s Day gifts.

Queensland Day - June 6
Usually a variety of presentations are held at Parade. A special lunch day is often provided via the tuckshop helpers.

Book Week

As part of the library program a book week is conducted at the school each year. All classes are involved in various projects, relevant to the annual theme. Parents are welcome to visit the library and view the total display.


Debating/Public Speaking

Each year since 1982, Years 6 and 7 have competed in 'houses', for the Moggill Lions' Club Trophy in Debate. The evening is conducted in C Block commencing at 7.00 pm and parents and other members of the community are invited to attend. Part of the program is devoted to Pubic Speaking when selected representatives from both year levels, through preliminary elimination contests, deliver brief speeches on current topics. Trophies are presented to winners of debate and public speaking by a representative of the Moggill Lions' Club.

Remembrance Day - November 11
A minutes silence is observed at the school.

Christmas Celebration
Some classes produce and present Christmas theme plays etc. during the final week of Semester 2. Parents are usually invited to attend.

Induction of Term Captains
These ceremonies are conducted at the end of each term.

Information/Enrolment Day
To provide information for parents of prospective students the following year, an information enrolment day is held during November each year.

Year 7 Dinner Evening
Conducted during the last week of second semester, this evening is the final official function for the Year 7 children in the school. The activities of the evening are planned by the Year 7 children who attend with their parents and/or guardians. Usually the dinner preparation is provided by the Year 6 parent group.

School Concert
A school concert is usually held in the second last week of the school year.

Gifted and Talented Program
It is planned to have at least two whole enrichment days or evenings to stimulate divergent thinking skills.

Artist in Residence
To enhance the school art program, the school has this year paid for an artist in residence. This artist, in conjunction with the classroom teacher, provides a stimulating art program for the students.

Competitions
Parents of the Year 4-7 classes are encouraged to enter the children in the University of New South Wales Testing Centre’s annual English, Mathematics and Science competitions. An entry fee of $5.00 (current) applies to these competitions. Parents are provided with feedback from the testing centre on the students performance compared to state performances.

Religious Education Functions
The Religious Education Team of the school conducts special events at Easter and in the last week of the year. At times ecumenical church services are held.

Education Week
The school has an Open Day during this week.
